Throughout most of my adult life — the last twenty years — the NBA’s West has been better than the East. Coveted free-agents and unhappy superstars usually landed in California or Texas. For a while, Miami was the only East destination that the NBA’s elite considered. Over those twenty years, the Lakers, then Spurs and most recently the Warriors each had their runs of titles.
