A Path Toward Healthy Sports Consumption

Like any good drug, consuming the NBA is addictive. As a consumer of this product, we are encouraged to consume as much as possible, as often as possible, and to engage online with the product as much as possible and as often as possible. Here are a few tips from a 32 year veteran of NBA consumption, who got hooked early — around age 11.

I should explain that basketball was the center of my life for much of my childhood. Probably from the time I was in fourth grade through about the end of tenth grade. It was my refuge, my meditation center. The hoop at the playground was often an escape. My success in basketball helped shape my identity and built confidence. I’ve never stopped loving the sport, but I’ve stopped playing it. Instead of shooting hoops, JoJo the dog and I stroll by the basketball court near my home. I consider inflating the ball. I watch the teens playing 3-on-3. I think about my 6 year-old and teaching her how to shoot. If I stop and imagine…I can see her on the court, her confidence rising with every steal or three-pointer. Possibly even providing her an outlet from the cauldron of adolescence. But she’s not interested. Not right now. Whales and sharks captivate her. Yellowjackets terrify her. The world is full of nature and nature is full of facts. I got her a set of Celtics basketball cards on Amazon. It’s what I have time for. Don’t judge it. The Kristaps…
