Appointment at the Explanation Station
A poem that explains everything, inspired by Shel Silverstein.
They said do more with less
But I say less is more
I’ve added it all up
But forgot to close the door.
Left my coat on a crooked hook
Months later I took a look
Sat in the meeting, shook.
Requested all the apps
But my application was denied
Walked the trail, heard the wind
Listened while the crows sighed.
Broke the rules when a solemn teacher told me
Rules were meant to be broken.
Found a yellow bus abandoned in the forest
But left behind my tokens.
Picked up the puzzle pieces
Then found myself in a corner
Saw the setting sun slip down
On a hillside with the mourners.
I keep my monthly appointment
At the explanation station
But getting there is complicated
