If Only…
If only the us and the them were the we
If only we never had the need for safe havens
If only there were a place free from the spilling of blood
If only a true history could be taught to open minds
If only agreements were permanent
If only we didn’t have to fear the consequences of peace
If only the past was a mirage to be forgotten
If only the past was never forgotten
If only we could walk ahead instead of turning and staring behind us
If only we stopped forgetting how safety underlies everything
If only the bombs were filled with truth
If only the terror existed only on a screen
If only the pain didn’t lead to more pain
If only there was a future beyond this.
