Parenting — What to Expect: Age 6
Being a parent is difficult. Balancing your work with your family is challenging. I like writing about my life as a parent. We have a 6 year-old. She is in first grade. Here are some things I’ve noticed:
Reading Skills
Reading skills may skyrocket. If your child can’t read The Atlantic by now, don’t worry. Empower them with encouragement and continue reading with them, whatever it is you find. Share the page with them when you read. There are many two-character stories, where you can read the books as a dialogue.
The news is almost guaranteed to give them nightmares, so save them from most of the insanity until age 10.
For RH: Eva the Owlet series and the Narwal and Jelly series have been two inspiring and addicting reading experiences for us.
Social Development
