We have become conditioned to go to YouTube to find videos. How to videos. Job-related issues. Tech interests or issues. Music. Cooking. Sports highlights. Lessons for teaching. Comedy. Drawing tutorials. If we are bored, many of us choose YouTube or Instagram or Twitter. The life hack, the easy fix.

I enjoy 5-10 minute game highlights. I use it for music. Various teaching resources. Read-aloud books. TV show clips. Interviews. YouTube is a portal that offers many fun things.

Have you ever searched YouTube for “The Problem with YouTube?”

Of course, for one person to describe their problem with YouTube, the other 100 people will continue clicking away. The algorithm will simply move on, using search information to further lead us down its millions of rabbit holes.

One of the biggest issues with YouTube is maintaining your interest. If you begin to watch videos of people giving life advice, these will bend toward the more extreme the further you go. These are the more dangerous rabbit holes. Instead of talking to someone, therapist or friend or family member or partner…or choosing to write or draw or exercise or read or watch a show or movie….many go down the rabbit hole as if it’s a water slide.
