We Make It
We make it
Through another
Sun-baked late afternoon.
We make it
All the way
To the end
Of the street,
Turning left
On the sidewalk.
We make it
Through the diarrhea diaper
Of the no-nap afternoon
And the standing
In the mini pool
Stealing apples from overhead
Splash chomp splash.
We make it
Down to the
Frozen yogurt place
With the simple tabletops,
But we refuse
To sit in Mama’s lap
Or sit in the wooden seat
We must stand and
Demand more cake!
Actually small brownie squares
Sitting on top of
Strawberry ice cream.
We make it
And we make it
And we keep making it
Until one day…
We will have made it.
